This is one of the most common questions I’m asked by dance studio owners. The thought of social media and getting it all out there can be a very scary concept.
SOCIAL MEDIA IS A CONVERSATION.
Imagine you’re headed to a social function. You get yourself all dolled up and practice your conversations and introductions in the mirror (yes, I know you do). You wonder who you’ll meet, who will be the most interesting (or the most obnoxious), and who may be potential clients.
This is exactly like social media! It’s social… it’s a conversation… it’s engaging.
BE THE REAL DEAL.
Authenticity is crucial to building trust with your online community. Speak from the heart and be you. Even if you’re not comfortable writing, it’s imperative you speak the truth and in your own voice. If writing posts and tweets leaves you shaking in your boots, try finding your voice through the camera. Shoot a quick instructional video or narrate a tutorial. Find what showcases you and your authentic self.
BE READY FOR THE NEGATIVE.
Along with the good comes the bad. There will always be one person in the crowd who isn’t your biggest fan. When you put it out there, you’re going to get some negativity thrown in from time to time. These fans are most likely not your ideal client to begin with so take it with a grain of salt and look to all the positive comments and reviews you have. Those are the ones to spend your energy on and the audience you’re trying to reach.
HAVE FUN!
Social media is most effective when it’s authentic and fun! Plan posts that make you smile, show your true self, and reflect the attitude of your studio. The more you post, the easier it will be and, before you know it, you’ll be having a great time with your social media.
